IGT Casinos

IGT

While IGT still offers their games through some downloadable casinos in the US and other non-European markets, today, all of their games are available via Instant Play, which allows you to play directly from your Internet Browser without the need to download software or plugins.

Instant Play ensures players on all operating systems can enjoy the action and it also allows for 'portable gaming', meaning, for example, you can log into your online casino account at a friend’s house to place bets or have a punt without needing to download any software. The only real requirements to play IGT’s Instant Play games is that you’ll need the most up-to-date Internet Browser version at most online casinos, which is due to various security protocols.

Mobile Gameplay

IGT’s games can also be played on most mobile devices and almost all phones and tablets have the capability to run most of the IGT games, including their most graphic-intense, state-of-the-art video slots that many players would assume could only be played from a desktop PC or Laptop.

Slots

Any players already familiar with IGT will know their reputation within the gaming industry as one of the world’s largest gambling companies. The company has a long-history, starting over 50 years ago when they first produced slot machines for many land-based-casinos in the United States of America. Today, IGT provide their slot games to many countries and casinos around the world, and one of the most popular games they offer is undoubtedly the Pyramid Trilogy.

Pyramid Trilogy

This includes the $25,000 Pyramid, the $100,000 Pyramid (as pictured here) and the $1,000,000 Pyramid. All three of these became popular in land based casinos throughout the USA thanks to their jackpot amounts (which, of course, are in-line with their names).

Cleopatra

Cleopatra is perhaps another of the company’s biggest hits and it has achieved widespread popularity in the UK, thanks to its inclusion in all Coral high-street bookmakers on their FOBT (fixed-odds-betting-terminals) machines. While it has proved successful for shops, it is also a popular hit online and if players are lucky enough to hit the bonus-round with a 5X multiplier and the 'cat bonus' (the best feature available), it’s possible to win gigantic sums of money, far surpassing that of most slots around today.

Wheel of Fortune

IGT also have many exclusive partnerships with television companies and film studios, and one of the most successful of these partnerships (in terms of the slot game it produced as a result), is Star Trek: Against All Odds.

The Wheel of Fortune is another such game and is based on a variation of one of their first ever slot machines placed in a Las Vegas Casino over 40 years ago! Of course, the online version of the game differs rather significantly, in terms of gameplay, looks, and payouts, but the core theme remains the same, and this classic US TV-show has been beautifully crafted into a playable, and enjoyable slot from the software provider. IGT have a huge repertoire of slots and it’s always worth keeping an eye on their latest releases, as they’re generally extremely high quality.

Table Games

IGT may have a solid reputation for developing video slots for both online casinos and land-based-casinos, but their casino table game range shouldn’t be forgotten, and their large collection of Roulette, Blackjack, and Poker-themed table games provide players the same high-quality thrill and excitement that can be found in their video slots. Below, we’ll look at a few of the most popular IGT casino table games in three categories, including: Roulette, Blackjack and Other Games.

Roulette

IGT Multi Wheel Roulette

IGT’s Roulette titles are well-received by almost all players for a number of reasons. Firstly, all their games – regardless of their popularity – are built using stunning, crisp and clear graphics. Even the mechanism and development behind their Roulette titles is based on state-of-the-art, sophisticated code, ensuring the wheel-spin-action is smooth and reliable.

Secondly, is the wide-range of Roulette games on offer. You’ll find that IGT offer the standard titles, such as European Roulette, American Roulette and French Roulette, but they also offer slightly less-commonly-seen titles, such as 3-Wheel-Roulette (as pictured in this section), VIP Roulette and Roulette Euro. All of these games offer players varying stake-options and settings.

Blackjack

IGT Blackjack

IGT’s range of Blackjack games also cannot be ignored, and again, just like with their Roulette titles, you’ll find that all of the Blackjack games are built to very high standards, allowing for cross-platform gaming and even mobile gaming. In fact, IGT’s Blackjack were one of the first of the software providers games to be available for mobile players. The high-quality build and usability is one of the reasons so many online casinos choose to offer the Blackjack games to players.

In terms of the specific games on offer, IGT offer numerous types, from classics like standalone Blackjack and European Blackjack, to Blackjack Switch, Perfect Pairs Blackjack, and Multi-Hand-Blackjack – the latter of which allows you to play up to 5 hands simultaneously.

Other Games

Many of IGT’s most popular video slot games end up being turned into scratchcard games and this is to allow players to enjoy a different type of gaming approach – most notably – an Instant Win way of playing. Possibly the most well-known example of this is the game 100,000 Pyramid, which, of course, is based off the hit TV show and is one of the software providers most popular video slots. This instant-win scratch-card game allows players to win up to £100,000 in a matter of seconds, simply from buying the online scratch-card version and scratching.

IGT also offer a range of poker-themed games, including 3 Card Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker and Casino Hold’ Em. All of these games are available on both desktop and mobile devices.

Live Dealer Games

As is the case with most software providers, IGT have been quick to recognise the popularity of a Live Dealer Casino, and as such, they now offer their own version of Live Dealer Games, which are available to all online casinos that offer IGT games. All of the popular casino games you’d expect to find in an online casino are available, including multiple variations of Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, 3 Card Poker, Casino Hold'em, Sic Bo, Caribbean Stud Poker and Red Dog.

Another plus of IGT’s Live Dealer Games is that they’re all available cross-platform (as is the case with most of their slots and casino games), which ensures that mobile players can enjoy the games from their phones and tablets.

Note: Not all Live Dealer Games will be available at all online casinos. The exact game-range you’ll find will depend largely on the management team of the casino and what titles they decide to offer.

Video Poker

Deuces Wild Video Poker

Alongside being one of the world's top developers of video slots, IGT offer a large Video Poker collection with over 69 titles available, combined in both their online casino game-range, as well as their land-based-casino machine cabinets. In terms of their online Video Poker games, they offer near-enough every title you’d expect to find from Jacks or Better, All America Video Poker, Deuces Wild (as pictured here) and Joker Wild. Additionally, many of their games are available in multiple varieties with both gamble functions and multi-hand options available.

A gamble function allows players to ‘double up’ after having a win by picking 1 card from 5 that appear on the screen. The multi-hand option allows you to play up to 100 hands at once and ensures that – despite the staking-cost increasing – the win potential increases (alongside the chance of making Royal Flush hands).

Jackpot Games

Family Guy Jackpot Slot

IGT have a wide range of progressive jackpot games on offer and the majority of these jackpot games are in the form of video slots, available for players to enjoy from desktop and mobile devices. There’s a huge range of these jackpot slots on offer from TV-based titles, such as Family Guy (as pictured in this section), Ghostbusters: Triple Slime, and The Hangover, to non-slot jackpots, including casino games like Caribbean Stud Poker, and even Video Poker.

The Video Poker progressive jackpots largely rely on players making a Royal Flush hand, while playing at the maximum coin-bet value. This, however, does differ from game-to-game and can change.

About IGT

  • Year Founded: 1975
  • Public Trading: New York Stock Exchange

History of IGT

IGT was first founded in 1976, and over the first 20 years of their business career, they primarily focused on land-based-casino cabinets, producing video slots and Video Poker titles for players to enjoy. So popular were there games amongst players and casino operators that the company experienced exponential growth surges. They soon took over as the world’s leading land-based-casino game provider, cementing the software provider's position in the industry.

IGT became listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the 1990s, making the company a publicly-traded entity. This furthered their popularity and reach with international casino clients becoming an additional source of revenue for them. As the number of orders the company received grew, so did their operation, and it wasn’t long before the company had offices all over the world. Currently, they have headquarters in South Africa, London and Argentina with hundreds of staff members making the day-to-day running of the company slicker than ever before.

1998 saw IGT acquire Barcrest Gaming (a United Kingdom based gaming company) and Sodak Gaming, which would become IGT’s gaming distributor for the Native American market. In 2011, IGT took over WagerWorks, a company that was based in the United States and most well known for developing and managing the online casino, Hard Rock. This takeover allowed IGT to extend its reach even further.

In July, 2014, an Italian gaming equipment company called Gtech managed to come to an agreement with IGT that saw them acquire IGT for a whopping $6.4 Billion. This saw the companies combine, and since this merger, a new holding company was founded in the United Kingdom with games dropping the IGT name in replace of using the Gtech name.

Note: Despite the name change, many online casinos still allow players to sort and categorise IGT’s games by 'IGT', instead of using the new name, 'Gtech'.

The Future for IGT

As one of the world’s largest online gambling companies, which currently employs over 12,000 staff around the world, IGT have their fingers in quite a few pies and continue to grow both their off-line and online gambling operations.

One of the biggest challenges IGT have faced is the changing legislation around the world with regards to online gambling, which really came to affect the company during their take-over of WagerWorks. With the laws of online gambling in the United States far more confusing and complex than they should be, IGT decided to generally pull out of the market – as did major rivals like NetEntertainment and Microgaming. Despite this, however, IGT still manage to operate a huge amount of machines in American land-based-casinos.

It’s likely we’ll see IGT continue to push their Live Dealer Games and mobile gaming experiences, as these are two of the industry’s largest and fastest-growing areas. Online news reports hint at the fact that IGT want to become more prominent in player-facing online casinos, meaning they likely want to start their own white-label casino solutions, like we’ve seen with NetEntertainment, Playtech and Microgaming. Whether or not this becomes a reality or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear that IGT have the resources, the money and the staff behind them to be able to do it.

IGT is estimated to be worth around $3.6 Billion, and with assets worth over $15 Billion, they are not just one of the biggest online gambling companies, but indeed one of the world’s biggest companies. Whatever route IGT choose to take with their business, their impact on the gambling industry is robust, as they continue to provide players with an outstanding playing experience.
