Genting Club Blackpool has benefited from a revamp in late 2013 which has preserved the traditional exterior features of this listed building. Located to the north of the north west’s renowned holiday resort, the casino is on the seafront.

It is easily accessible by public transport – the nearest major train station is Blackpool North which is just over a mile away. Blackpool airport is five miles south whilst drivers should come off the M55 at Junction 4, follow signs for Stanley Park and the Zoo and head north – the casino is approximately one and a half miles from Blackpool Tower and you will find free parking outside. There are several hotels within walking distance with the Cliffs Hotel and the Sheraton closest to the casino.

Live gaming starts at 2.00pm where you will find four American roulette tables, two each of three card poker and blackjack as well as 30 electronic roulette machines. Some of their slots offer a £10,000 jackpot and you can also join their slots club or take part in their slot promotions. The casino features a poker league and Texas Hold’em poker tournaments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting at 8.00pm. Cash games are not organised by the casino, but if you contact the card room manager, you may be able to hire a table. There is also a kalooki league with competitions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Joining the Genting Loyalty scheme means that you earn points throughout the casino which can be exchanged for a variety of goodies.

Genting Club Blackpool hosts regular events, promotions and deals – for example, every Saturday, live entertainment is shown with performances by local artists and on Tuesday nights, the restaurant has a special Chinese food offer. Apart from the restaurant, which has an extensive a la carte menu, you can also find a snack from their ‘Play and Graze’ menu. Along with a well stocked bar, the casino has seven wide screen TVs showing Sky Sports and Box Nation.

Small but perfectly formed

I had often driven past the Genting Casino in Blackpool and noticed the unique building which it is housed in, having been to Vegas it reminded me of a scaled down Excalibur casino with its pointy towers, so one wet and rainy afternoon, and having a few quid in my pocket after an usually good run of luck in the Grosvenor casino which is located at the other end of the promenade I decided to bite the bullet and see if I could continue riding the winning streak.

Having never played here nor at a Genting Casino before I wandered in with my Passport, Driving License and a Gas Bill expecting to be given the third degree which everyone gets when they join a casino for the first time, however the receptionist informed me I didn't need to join there and then as she had seen my Passport that was good enough to gain access to the casino, should I wish to become a member I could do so at a more convenient time.

From this I got the impression her conversation with her colleague was way too juicy to have it interrupted by the usual form filling etc that a new member requires. But in fairness she was a lovely lady and directed me how to get to the casino lounge, I followed these directions to the letter which entailed me opening a door and there it was!

First impressions of the casino floor was that it was small, no huge banks of machines, in fact there was probably 2 or 3 dozen of them at most, with a small collection of roulette machines, and the table games consisted of a couple of both Blackjack and Roulette tables, just one of each was open.

For a Casino based in this very well known gambling town I would have expected the place to be busy, but there was around just 10 fellow punters in there. I played a few of their slots, but the lack of them didn't really get me excited, so I decided to play the Roulette table for a while as there was just one other guy at the table, and I prefer to play with fewer people playing as I tend to get annoyed when arms (and sometimes legs) start flailing all over the place in the mad rush to get bets onto the table.

The one thing I did notice is that the croupiers, pit bosses and dealers were all female and of a certain age, namely 40 something, this meant they had probably been there and got the T-shirt and this made them a really friendly bunch and always up for some banter.

Should you be in Blackpool and fancy a gamble in a casino, and you are looking for a quieter place then this could be the place to visit, I presume it must get busy but in hindsight with the number of slots and table games offered I guess it never gets too busy.

Oh and if you do play live Roulette, number 28 may be a lucky one to play, the reason I say this is the guy who was playing at the roulette table with me would repeatedly place a huge pile of chips on this number and one or two on other numbers, and never in my life have I seen 28 spin in so often!
