Casinos in Portsmouth
Portsmouth is a southcoast city that is surrounded by other well-known areas. Just a few miles across the water is the Isle of Wight, whilst Southampton is only a little while up the Solent and Chichester is along the coast. This proximity to alternative locations may well explain why there are only two casinos in the city – though not much can explain why they’re both part of the same chain.

Grosvenor Casinos are one of the most respected chains in the business and their two Portsmouth area venues offer something slightly different from each other. Their Osborne Road casino is what you might call slightly more traditional, located within a Victorian building and offering the likes of roulette, Blackjack and slot machines. There are also high-stake tables for those of you that like to go big or go home. In terms of poker, there are cash games every day of the week – normally getting underway at about 7pm.
The Gunwharf Quays casino is actually located inside a leisure centre and shopping complex. Because it’s a new-build, especially in comparison to the Victorian building that the Osbourne Road casino is found in, it’s a much more modern take on a casino than its sister venue. You’ll be able to play most of the same games, though the slot machines are a bit more high tech and have jackpots of up to £10,000. There’s also a dedicated poker room, which promises both tournaments and cash games throughout the week.
Though Portsmouth city itself is actually surprisingly compact, the areas that come under its jurisdiction are a tad more spread out. The Gunwharf Quays casino is the closest to what you’d consider the city centre, located just a few minutes walk from Portsmouth Harbour Train Station. The Osbourne Road venue, meanwhile, can actually be found in the Portsmouth suburb, known as Southsea, which is just a few minutes away from the beach.
