Casinos in Newcastle

Given that St. James’ Park stands on top of a hill that looks over the city of Newcastle, it’s no major surprise that football dominates the mindset of the Geordies. People who enjoy their football also commonly tend to like a flutter every now and then, too, so that might well be the reason that the nearly 300,000 residents of the city have three different casinos to choose from when it comes to their betting needs.

As is so often the case when a city has more than one casino, the venues all offer something slightly different to each other in the hope that that will attract peoples’ custom. The Grosvenor Casino, for example, is a place to head if you’re a poker lover but don’t take it quite as seriously as others. There are cash games every weekday, apart from on Wednesdays, and tournaments with at least £5,000 to be won on a Saturday. They also hold a Wheel of Fortune type contest on Wednesdays, where winners get to eat for free. The Genting Casino also has cash games and tournament poker, with both venues offering all of the usual games that you’d expect to find at a top-class casino.

Those games, such as roulette, three-card poker, baccarat, Blackjack, slots and so on, are also available at Aspers Casino. The reason you might want to head to the Grosvenor if you don’t take poker too seriously is that punters at the Aspers take it very seriously indeed; the venue is the location of the largest poker room in the entirety of the North-East. You can get involved in cash games and tournaments and even host your own private version of them both if you want.

The casinos are nicely spread out through the city, with the Genting sitting not far from Newcastle Train Station. The Grosvenor is out towards Metro Radio Arena and Aspers can be found in the middle of the Gate Shopping Centre – just by the city’s Chinatown.
