Nestled in the heart of London’s upmarket Mayfair, Crown Aspinalls is an exclusive club for the wealthy founded by the world famous maverick zoo keeper and gambler – John Aspinall. It is situated in two Georgian townhouses and has an air of affluence spread throughout the building. John Aspinall’s conservation and love of animals has provided a zoo-like atmosphere with several animal photos and prints and even sculptures of different types of animals. Comfortable seating is available in the soft gaming area which is decorated with antique furniture, plum walls and green tables. The main gaming floor has an air of opulence with its brocade walls and carved fireplace.

The two closest airports to the centre of London are London City Airport – nine miles east and Heathrow, 13 miles west of the casino. The nearest tube stops are Hyde Park Corner and Green Park. Parking is difficult in London and expensive. The nearest car parks to the casino are Hilton Hotel national car park and Audley Square car park. When it comes to hotels – take your pick, they’re all there. The nearest are the Hilton, Park Lane Mews Hotel and the Metropolitan Hotel.

Crown Aspinalls’ gaming rooms offer 16 gaming tables, seven of which are located in three private salons. Members can choose from roulette, punto banco, blackjack and poker. Guests and private parties can hold private games in these quarters. For poker lovers, Crown Aspinalls holds regular tournaments and are happy to arrange poker nights on behalf of, or at the request of, members. Soft gaming also exists on the premises with backgammon or cards available in these private rooms. Sporting events from around the world are also played on the TV screens in the soft gaming area.

Members can eat in the formal dining room decorated with white walls, table cloths and arched windows or dine outside in The Terrace which is a fully covered and heated outdoor smoking area.

Another Martini, Mr Bond?

If James Bond were looking for a casino to play at in Mayfair, he would probably end up at Aspinalls.

This is your stereotypical old money gambling house, filled with upper class 'chaps' sipping Martinis whilst guffawing with Lords and Ladies. And I bloody love it.

As you would expect, if you're looking for a cheap place to gamble, this definitely isn't it - you're be lucky to find a blackjack table with anything less than a £10 miniumum bet.

The food at the restaurant is spectacular and appropriately priced - you can expect to pay £100 a head and upwards for a dinner with wine.
